Were you born outside Canada?

Adopted children: You do not receive automatic citizenship — instead, apply for a direct grant under section 5.1.

Crown servants: If your parent was posted abroad in Canadian military or public service, generational limits may not apply.

Lost Canadians: If you or an ancestor lost citizenship under the old section 8 retention requirement, it may be restored.
